Samsung R530 – Powerful, Fashionable, and, Get This, Affordable!

4 January 2011

Samsung is going up and away with its R series, and with its latest R530 notebook PC, Samsung is finally able to establish itself as one of the top laptop manufacturers in the world.

Introducing the Samsung R530

The Samsung R530 is a 15.6 inch notebook which has come to indulge those who yearned for the Samsung R780 but couldn’t get it. Though smaller in size and less powerful in comparison, the R530 compensates its shortcomings through its price: £380 on

Basically, the R530 is an upgrade of the R430. However, the notebook is winning the hearts of its users because of the different features and functions it has to offer. So, if you’re interested in discovering what this affordable notebook has to offer you, read on!

Though We Shouldn’t Judge the Notebook by Its Cover….

We know that judging a notebook just by its cover is wrong, but we can’t help loving the exterior of the Samsung R530. The lid’s moody red and black lid has the potential to become a source of inspiration to artists. Samsung’s design alone is going to taunt other notebook producers because they usually provide better designs with expensive models only, whereas Samsung was able to provide such a terrific style for less.

In fact, you may actually like the idea that your regular plastic keys look 99.9% metallic. So, you can always flash your R530 the next time you feel like showing off.

Under the Hood

After examining the aesthetics of the R530, it was time to sink deeper into the machine to discover what hardware it had in store.

The first thing that really stood out was the dual-core processor. This was really a disappointment because most of the latest computers used Intel’s Core i series. However, other features manage to woo those who examine the R530. One of these is the 3GB DDR3 RAM. This is a good amount of memory for such a low price. Plus, you can always upgrade this to 4GB although you may only end up with 3.5GB thanks to the 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium installed in the R530.

The laptop comes with a battery which is supposed to last for around 4 hours in standby mode and 2.5 hours when watching a movie. The Samsung R530 battery has a capacity of 4400mAh which is pretty much standard for the laptop of this type.

Still, the notebook’s performance is quite good. You will easily enjoy editing your documents and browsing the web. If you are a movie buff, you will even like graphics offered by the R530. This comes as a shock because the graphics are handled by the on-board Intel GMA rather than a dedicated graphics card. So, you can easily slip in a DVD and enjoy the clear and loud sound effects resonating from the speakers.

Bottom Line

For its price, the R530 is definitely a good buy. You will get a lot of features and a sleek design for a very competitive price. However, if you’re planning on using this notebook for intense gaming and to run heavy applications, you will have to find yourself another Samsung model.

Why not take time to shop around for Samsung laptop accessories. There are loads of funky covers, mice and speaker; or if you need something functional, get yourself a charger for Samsung R530 for just £20.
