About Laptop LCD Screens

Laptop LCD screen is the display screen of your laptop. All modern laptops rely on LCD screens, which is a shortening for “Liquid Crystal Display” screens. These displays have been around for a long time and even though a lot of upgrades has been made in the interim, the basic principle behind their work remains the same.

Various Aspects of LCD screens

Laptop screens are almost the same as external LCD displays but in this case they are housed as part of the laptop. There’s also an emphasis on their slimness in recent times. This however, depends more on the manufacturer and the design of the housing.

Most modern laptop and notebook screens use LED backlight in order to ensure lower power consumption and hence longer battery life. LED backlight is also more even and brighter, which enhances the colour reproduction and the picture quality of the screen.

LCD Resolutions and Sizes

The size of LCD screen is what the laptop’s size is based on because the display is its largest component. Hence, screen size is in fact what is denoted when you hear that a laptop is a 15-inch, 13-inch or 17-inch even. These are industry standard screen sizes that are purchased by laptop makers from display plants. The resolutions on these screens vary but the size is usually directly proportionate to how many pixels you get on your display.

More high-end 15” laptops will support HD resolutions and beyond but only a few will have 1080p TruHD resolutions (meaning 1080 pixels vertically). The actual physical resolution of a display is called native resolution and is a basis of all the ratings.

It has to be remembered that a high resolution alone does not make a good LCD screen. Laptop displays of the same screen size and resolution can have differences in their picture quality and colour reproduction. These depend on the individual LCD screens and how well they have been manufactured.

Other Features

One very important aspect of a laptop LCD display is the viewing angle. Even though a laptop is meant to be a personal workstation, there are times when you will have to share the content of the screen with some other people. This is when it becomes important to have a wide angle of viewing so that text and images can be easily seen from the sides. Also, for people who watch a lot of movies on their laptops, it is important to have good frame rate support and minimized ghosting for crisp motion sequences.
